Ex-Premier League referee: FA set to punish James Tarkowski after new Everton controversy
James Tarkowski may receive an informal FA warning for his comments after Everton were beaten 1-0 to Chelsea on Saturday (6 August), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed Tarkowski needs “operational advice” to avoid a formal FA charge in the future.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme, Chelsea were awarded a penalty when Abdoulaye Doucoure brought Ben Chilwell down from behind in the penalty box at the end of the first half.
Tarkowski, 29, told Sky Sports after the game that the referee was inconsistent during the game.
He claimed referee Craig Pawson had let similar tackles “slide” and he hoped he would do the same for the penalty.
Jorginho converted the spot-kick past Jordan Pickford to secure the three points for Chelsea and consign Everton to defeat.
“It’s something he shouldn’t have said,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I think he needs some operational advice from the FA by way of a letter.
“If you are going to go onto the television and make comments you’ve got to be a bit better to make sure you don’t open yourself up to a charge from the FA.
“A shot across his barrels would help.
“I do think Craig Pawson had a good game.”

Tarkowski made his competitive debut for Everton on Saturday after his summer free transfer move from Burnley.
The two-time England international has signed a four-year contract at Goodison Park.
In other news, Everton have finalised another signing after a bid is accepted and a medical is complete.
