Ex-Premier League referee issues verdict on Thomas Frank receiving extended ban after Brentford news

The FA were correct not to give Brentford boss Thomas Frank a touchline ban following his “improper conduct”.

That is the view of ex-Fifa and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Dane’s reaction following the Bees’ 2-1 defeat against Wolves earlier this month (22 January).

Brentford manager Frank was dismissed after the final whistle by match official Peter Bankes for confronting the referee on the Brentford Community Stadium pitch.

The FA confirmed on Friday (28 January) that the Bees boss had been slapped with a £8,000 fine for ‘improper language and behaviour’.

Hackett insisted Frank was simply a victim of his own emotions and passions.

He urged the FA, Premier League, and EFL to band together to prevent managers from coming onto the field of play post-match.

“No, I’ve never seen Thomas Frank as a serial offender,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“He was upset. I genuinely believe what he said after the game, which was recognising he was out of order, helped his case.

“He didn’t appeal because he admitted that he was in the wrong. It’s a substantial fine. With that fine would have been a letter which spells out the expectation of behaviour from the footballing authorities.

“I just feel that the FA, the Premier League, and the EFL should come together and put their foot down. Managers should not be allowed to come on the field of play after the final whistle.

“This manager, like every other, took just 30 minutes of cooling off. That’s the time to knock on the door and have a discussion with the officials. It’s just passion which has boiled over in front of his home crowd.”
