Ex-Premier League referee lambasts James Maddison as Leicester City ban confirmed
James Maddison can have no complaints with the yellow card he received as Leicester City drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Saturday (15 October), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee suggested Maddison knew he was guilty when he dived right in front of Andy Madley.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme, the 25-year-old wanted a penalty for a challenge by Luka Milivojevic but the referee went the other way.
Maddison was cautioned for his actions meaning he has now picked up five yellow cards this season from just nine Premier League games.
He will now serve a one-game suspension and will miss Leicester’s game with Leeds United at the King Power Stadium on Thursday (20 October).
“That’s where you have to be careful,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Look at how he looks at the referee it’s a signal. He’s saying ‘Look at me, I want a penalty kick’.
“Here is another relatively new referee. Andy Madley has got this spot on.
“Madley will not know it is his fifth yellow card. We don’t have that information going into the game, we just referee it as it pans out.
“The one thing I will say is, look at his position. It is absolutely on the button. This is another referee who is having a really good season.”

Maddison has been the shining light in Leicester’s poor season as they remain in the relegation zone.
The one-cap England international has scored five times and provided two assists in the top flight this term.
