Ex-Premier League referee: Tottenham may have been reported to authorities after Heung-min Son controversy
The referee will report the “mass confrontation” between Tottenham and Sevilla to the Korea Football Association, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and Fifa referee delivered his verdict after the controversial scenes as the half-time whistle was blown in the 1-1 draw at the weekend (16 July).
Heung-min Son was confronted by Sevilla’s Gonzalo Montiel before players from both sides jumped in to defend their teammates.
Harry Kane opened the scoring after the interval before Ivan Rakitic levelled the scores to earn Sevilla a draw out in South Korea.
“It’s a mass confrontation,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Son’s walked away from it.
“They should blow the whistle. There was the accusation of a right hand being thrown.
“What the referee has to do in that situation is issue a minimum of two yellow cards because it’s a mass confrontation.
“In England, if this happened in the Premier League or the EFL, both clubs would be charged with failing to control their players.
“This is the danger of overseas games. I don’t think this is anything to d with the quality of the referee here because in South Korea they’ve got some good referees and there’s no doubt they would have put one of their best referees on this game.

“He would submit a report to his own association.
“To play a game in Asia you have to have that country’s permission. These tournaments gain permission from these countries and sometimes from the AFC.”
