Ex-striker has surprise Cristiano Ronaldo take as Man United images emerge – ‘he’s walking…’
Frank McAvennie has defended Cristiano Ronaldo after he stormed down the tunnel before the full time whistle as Man United beat Tottenham on Wednesday (19 October).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker refused to criticise Ronaldo and said he is an “absolute professional”.
As shown on ESPN (19 October), the 37-year-old could be seen walking down the tunnel at Old Trafford before the final whistle.
The Portugal international was an unused substitute for Erik ten Hag’s side for the 2-0 win over Spurs.
The striker has made 12 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions this season.
He has started just six of those games.
McAvennie said Ronaldo should be left to do whatever he wants.
“Everyone is making a big deal out of it,” he told Football Insider.
“He is not getting a game, he is annoyed. Everyone would be unhappy if he was not annoyed.
“He is an absolute professional, one of the top players in the world. He is walking off, so what? Let him get on with it. I have not got a problem with him and I am not going to criticise Ronaldo that is for sure.“

On 29 July, Sky Sports reported that Ronaldo expressed a desire to leave the club but United were unwilling to let him leave and he remained at Old Trafford.
The forward has entered the final 12 months of his contract but the club have the option to extend it by a further year.
