Whelan ‘wowed’ by Liverpool man amid Mike Tyson claim

Noel Whelan has hailed Jurgen Klopp’s “fearless” Liverpool side after their “brilliant” comeback against Leicester.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the fightback was typical of the 54-year-old’s Reds side.

A second-string Liverpool side recovered from 3-1 down to win on penalties against Leicester in the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday (22 December).

Speaking on talkSPORT (23 December), former Reds striker Dean Saunders hailed Klopp’s men for “never giving up” during the tie – and compared them to Mike Tyson.

Liverpool now face Arsenal in a two-legged semi-final next month ahead of the Wembley showpiece final in February.

Whelan hailed Klopp for installing a never-say-die philosophy at Anfield.

“Wow, it was a brilliant comeback from such a young team, but that’s what Liverpool are all about,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“That is just the attitude and philosophy that Jurgen Klopp has installed all around the club, from the first-team all the way through to the youth sides. It’s so evident in the way they play, they’re fearless when they play under him.

“It was nothing less than I expected from this Klopp side, that real hunger and desire to never give up on the game.

“What an experience and an important boost that will be for the youngsters involved.”
