Ex-Uefa official: Fifa may launch Alexander Iwobi investigation after ‘big’ Everton controversy
Fifa may launch an investigation into Everton midfielder Alexander Iwobi, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Uefa and Premier League referee claimed Iwobi has questioned the integrity of match officials on Twitter.
The 26-year-old took to social media last month (28 September) to claim that decisions made in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Algeria in a friendly the day before were “questionable”.
He was particularly unhappy with a goal that Nigeria had ruled out for offside.
They were leading 1-0 and former Everton man Ademola Lookman thought he had doubled his side’s lead only for the goal to be ruled out.
As quoted by Goal last month (28 September), Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro claimed the referee had made a “big mistake” in chalking the goal off.
Asked for his verdict on Iwobi’s comments, Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Well, he’s questioning the integrity of a match official.
“Therefore, he’s at risk. If the authorities see this, if Fifa sees it, he should be in trouble.
“You’ve got the equivalent of Uefa in Africa is Caf. If this is picked up by any of the authorities then he will be written to and asked to explain.”

Iwobi has been a revelation for Everton over the past 12 months after being converted from a winger to a midfielder.
The former Arsenal man moved to Goodison Park in the summer of 2019 and has played over 100 games for the Blues.
In other news, Farhad Moshiri is now ready to sell Everton after a statement and “it is big news”.
