Ex-Uefa official: Man United victims of major injustice as Marcus Rashford footage emerges
Marcus Rashford’s goal as Man United beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday (9 October) should not have been ruled out for handball, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Uefa and Premier League referee claimed the controversy shows the handball law is “daft”.
Rashford thought he had scored his side’s third goal at Goodison Park only for VAR to rule it out for a handball in the build up.
James Tarkowski challenged the 24-year-old and the ball was adjudged to have bounced up and hit his arm.
Rashford took to Twitter after the game to label the decision “questionable”.
“You look at it and go, surely that’s a good goal,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley
“Where it looks daft is in the West Ham game, Michail Antonio handling and Gianluca Scamacca handling and they are not given.
“Looking at this one, I think it’s sad that the player has had the goal ruled out.
“Ultimately, at the end of the day, the law is daft. It’s actually saying ‘If the ball hits the hand and goes to goal, the goal is ruled out’.
“Was this handball? I think there’s still doubt about it.

“Once it’s given, ok, the goal has been ruled out but I think it should have been given.
“It highlights the nonsense of the handball law. The people at the PGMOL will say ‘It’s a good decision, it was handball’. Ok, have a look at the other one at West Ham.”
