Exactly how much Tomas Cvancara is set to cost Celtic as transfer edges closer

Celtic are set to confirm the signing of Tomas Cvancara in the coming days.

The 25-year-old striker is set to join the Hoops on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach, with Martin O’Neill’s side possessing an option to buy.

Cvancara was in Glasgow for a medical on Wednesday ahead of the move, with Celtic aiming to end their troubles up top.

While Celtic fans have their reservations about Cvancara, there is every chance the attacker could be a success.

Now, the true cost of the striker has been revealed.

Tomas Cvancara could cost Celtic £7m+

According to Anthony Joseph via X on 21 January, Cvancara could cost the Hoops well over £7million in 2026.

Firstly, Celtic are set to cover all of the striker’s wages for the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.

This figure will reportedly cost £870,000 as the attacker looks to get back to form.

On top of this, Celtic and Borussia Monchengladbach have agreed on the optional future fee to be £7m if the Hoops deem the attacker good enough to keep at the club.

With Cvancara set to be thrown straight into the battle for the Scottish Premiership title, it remains to be seen if he can hit the ground running at Celtic Park.

Where would Cvancara rank in Celtic’s most expensive signings?

If Celtic were to confirm the signing of Cvancara in the summer, he would go down as one of the Hoops’ most expensive purchases of all time.

As it stands, Arne Engels’ £11m move from Augsburg in 2024 remains the biggest deal, and this is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Following this is Adam Idah for £9.5m in 2024 from Norwich City and Odsonne Edouard for £9m in 2018 from Paris St-Germain.

Celtic’s most expensive signings Price
Arne Engels£11m
Adam Idah£9.5m
Odsonne Edouard£9m
Jota£8m
Christopher Jullien£7m
Cvancara could be one of Celtic’s most expensive signings of all-time

Last January’s signing of Jota for £8m is currently the fourth-most expensive, with the attacker joining from Stade Rennais.

Therefore, if Cvancara were to join permanently, he would go down as Celtic’s fifth-most expensive signing ever, alongside Christopher Jullien, who also joined the Hoops for £7m in 2019 from Toulouse.

However, it remains to be seen if Celtic go through with the deal at the end of the season, with Cvancara having a lot to prove over the next few months.
