‘It can be crazy’ – Exclusive: Alan Hutton delivers ‘Brilliant’ verdict on Leeds promotion bid
Alan Hutton has admitted that he would love to see Leeds United promoted back to the Premier League this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and Scotland defender says the top flight would be a better league with the Whites in it after 16 years away.
Having reached the play-offs under Marcelo Bielsa last season, Leeds are once again pushing for an automatic promotion spot this season, sitting top of the table after their first game of 2020.
Hutton says that it would be amazing to see the Yorkshire giants back among the big time and that they look like a side who could go all the way this term.
“The Championship, it can be crazy but I think they’re a top, top team and I’d be very surprised if they didn’t come up this year,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“I think it would be brilliant for the Premier League because they’re such a big team, I think they could add so much to the team.
“I’m actually hoping they go up.”
Having gone into the new year at the top of the Championship table, Leeds had to come from behind to draw against second-placed West Brom on New Year’s Day.
The Whites are nine points clear of Brentford and Nottingham Forest in third and fourth respectively and 13 points ahead of seventh-placed Sheffield Wednesday.
Their next league outing sees them take on the Owls at Elland Road, with an FA Cup trip to Premier League side Arsenal up this weekend.
