Exclusive: Aston Villa green light Rory Wilson transfer

Aston Villa have given the green light for striker Rory Wilson to go out on loan this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The forward, 20, is edging closer to a January transfer and could potentially head to a European club.

Wilson, who joined Villa from Rangers in 2022, has been prolific for Villaโ€™s youth sides and he has scored seven goals in 11 games this season.

Clubs in Belgium, Austria, Denmark and Norway are all interested in taking Wilson on loan for the second half of the season.

Villa are open to loaning him so that he can gain valuable first-team experience.

Rory Wilson set to Aston Villa departure on loan

Despite regularly impressing for the academy, Wilson is yet to make a first-team appearance for Unai Emeryโ€™s side.

Nevertheless, Villa understands that Wilson has potential and offered him a new deal in April 2025, which he signed, keeping him at the club at least until 2027, with the Birmingham outfit having the option of another year.

Therefore, with the young striker looking to make his professional debut, he will now be aiming to join a side on loan until the end of the season.

However, it remains to be seen if anyone comes in for the youngster over the coming weeks.

How good has Wilson been for Aston Villaโ€™s academy?

According to Fotmob on 8 January, Wilson has rarely put a foot wrong when he has played for Aston Villaโ€™s academy.

The striker is averaging 0.51 goals and 2.56 shots per game in the Premier League 2 this season, an excellent record for the emerging talent.

On top of this, he has completed every dribble to date and is averaging 1.79 fouls won per match.

Therefore, if Wilson can use this talent if he gets a loan move, he could become a prolific goalscorer for his new club.

Emery will be hoping that this occurs, as he looks to develop another youngster into a star, just like what has happened to Morgan Rogers at Villa Park.
