Exclusive: Aston Villa ‘very interested’ in re-signing Carney Chukwuemeka

Aston Villa are “very interested” in bringing Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka back to the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues are willing to listen to offers for the 21-year-old, who they value at around £40million.

It is believed Villa will not match that valuation, but are assessing Chukwuemeka as a concrete January target.

The central midfielder left the Midlands giants in August 2022 to join Chelsea in a reported £20million deal.

He has not made the matchday squad for any of the Blues’ 19 Premier League games this term with Enzo Maresca’s side in title contention.

Chukwuemeka has started just one game in five total appearances in the 2024-25 campaign, a 67-minute outing in the 3-1 win over Astana in Kazakhstan earlier this month.

He has played 32 times in total for Chelsea since making the move to Stamford Bridge, scoring two and notching one assist.

Aston Villa could re-sign £40m-valued Chukwuemeka

The Austria-born England youth international is under contract with the London side until June 2028.

Chukwuemeka joined Aston Villa’s academy from Northampton in 2016 and signed his first professional deal in 2020.

He made 16 appearances for the club’s senior side after starring at youth level.
