Darren Bent says that Aston Villa would be getting their hands on a bargain if they can prise Liverpool winger Harry Wilson away for £20million this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa and England forward revealed he has been a big fan of the Liverpool winger since his loan spell at Hull City and that he expects the Welsh wide man to just continue to improve.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Villa have been joined by Premier League Newcastle United in hunting a move for the 22-year-old after dazzling once again in the Championship with Derby County.
With reports suggesting Liverpool are looking for a fee of £20million for Wilson’s capture, Bent says Villa could seal an absolute bargain if they were to pounce at that sort of price tag.
Bent told Football Insider: “It’s not even just been last season because he impressed me the season before at Hull. I was at Burton and he was at Hull and I remember thinking: ‘Bloody hell, this kid.’
“When Derby got him I thought what a great bit of business. I’m a big fan of his, I think Liverpool are saying £20million on his head. That is a snippet, that is an absolute snippet.
“He is a top talent, he’s got all the attributes. He can hit a dead ball, he can go past people, he’s quick, he works hard, he’s a good guy around the changing room.
“Anyone who is looking to get him for £20million, that’s a snip, I think he’ll get better and better. If someone can go and get him, like Aston Villa, for £20million, that is a snippet.”
Wilson hit 18 goals for Derby across all competitions last season, his attacking exploits helping the Rams reach the Championship play-off final, where the Welsh international and his teammates were defeated by Villa.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club have agreed personal terms with their 11th signing of the summer.
