Exclusive: Birmingham City make move to sign Aston Villa forward Louie Barry

Birmingham City have registered their interest in signing Aston Villa striker Louie Barry, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa may be willing to let the highly-rated 21-year-old leave the club on loan if he is offered sufficient first-team opportunities.

Following their relegation from the Championship last season, Birmingham City are keen to add players as they chase promotion at the first time of asking.

Barry, who spent last season on loan at League One side Stockport County, was one of the nation’s most coveted young stars when he signed for Aston Villa from Barcelona in 2019.

Given the rivalry between the two clubs, this may not be a popular move for either set of fans although Barry did start his career at West Brom.

Aston Villa expected to green light Louie Barry move

During his time at West Brom, Barry was one of the most sought-after young players in the country. He made the move to Barcelona before heading back to the Midlands.

Barry was prolific during his time in the Aston Villa youth set-up, scoring eight goals in eight appearances before being promoted to the Under-23s.

His good form continued, scoring an impressive 14 goals in 18 appearances in the higher age group before numerous loans throughout the English football pyramid.

Should the youngster get the green light to leave the club, Aston Villa will be lacking forwards after Moussa Diaby looks set to leave the club for Saudi Arabia.
