Exclusive: Blackburn, Hull and QPR in five-club Jerry Yates chase as Swansea exit looms

Blackburn Rovers, Hull City, QPR and two MLS clubs are leading the chase to sign Swansea City striker Jerry Yates this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Yates, 28, has spent this season on loan at Derby County and provided 14 goal contributions to help the Rams secure survival in the Championship, and has become a big fans’ favourite at Pride Park.

The experienced forward is due to return to Swansea this summer for pre-season training, but is expected to leave the Swansea.com Stadium permanently in the transfer window.

Now, Football Insider sources have said that Championship trio Blackburn, Hull and QPR, as well two sides from the MLS have all registered their interest in signing Yates going into the upcoming window.

Derby County return unlikely for Jerry Yates

Yates’ 10 goals and four assists in 42 Championship appearances this term have been crucial in keeping Derby afloat, after John Eustace’s side won six of their last 11 games to record a 19th-placed finish.

The 28-year-old’s contract in South Wales runs until 2026 after he signed a three-year deal with Swansea in 2023, and that should guarantee Alan Sheehan’s side some recompence if he does depart.

Football Insider revealed at the time that recently-relegated Leicester were keen on Yates after his three season spell and 46 goals at Blackpool, and with the striker on the move again, it remains to be seen if he’ll swap the Championship for a potential switch to the MLS.

Yates has already attracted interest from five clubs and could have several others in the race to sign him, with a permanent return to Derby likely off the cards with the sheer number of EFL and MLS sides keen.

Blackburn could soon have a pressing need to bring Yates to Ewood Park if young striker Joe Boggan is sold by the Rovers, after Football Insider revealed that five clubs across Europe want the 17-year-old.

Hull are also in the market for reinforcements and took Tooting and Mitcham’s “teenage sensation” Alex Cruickshank on trial in March, but Yates would be the ready-made, proven Championship striker needed if the Tigers are to avoid a repeat of this season’s relegation battle.
