Blackburn Rovers are set to sign defender Christian Maghoma on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.
Manager Tony Mowbray is in the market for a new centre-back after Tosin Adarabioyo returned to Manchester City after his loan spell in the Championship.
A source at Ewood Park has told Football Insider that the Rovers boss views Maghoma, 22, as the ideal replacement for the City man and that the 6ft 5in colossus (Transfermarkt) is set to seal a move back to England.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month, Maghoma’s form caught the attention of Rangers this summer as Steven Gerrard sought a replacement for the injured Nikola Katic.
However, the Glasgow giants instead signed Leon Balogun on a free after his exit from Wigan Athletic.
A graduate of the Tottenham youth academy, Maghoma is currently a free agent after leaving Polish outfit Arka Gdynia in May.
He left Spurs back in 2018 in pursuit of first-team football and made a total of 39 appearances while in Poland.
The giant defender also made his international debut for the Democratic Republic of Congo back in 2017.
Having seen Adarabioyo establish himself as a mainstay at Rovers during the 2019/20 season, Mowbray believes that Maghoma will be able to fill the void effectively.
The pair share similar attributes, including height and age, while Maghoma will also offer a burst of electric pace at the back.
Adarabioyo played a total of 35 times across all competitions for Rovers during his season-long loan at Ewood Park, with three goals to his name.
He has eight appearances under his belt for the first team at Manchester City, while he also has also spent a season on loan at West Brom.
