Exclusive: Bolton star Josh Dacres-Cogley undergoing Stockport medical after deal agreed

Bolton Wanderers right-back Josh Dacres-Cogley is undergoing a medical at Stockport County on Wednesday, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is set to sign an 18-month contract at Edgeley Park, with the pair of League One play-off hopefuls having already agreed a deal.

Stockport are pushing to secure promotion to the Championship, and Dacres-Cogley is set to become their second addition of the window, after the arrival of Josh Stokes on loan from Bristol City.

Dave Challinor’s side currently sit fourth in League One, and six points behind Lincoln City in the second automatic promotion place.

Bolton are also in the promotion hunt in League One, but their latest piece of business looks set to strengthen the hand of their rivals for a place in the play-offs.

The Trotters are currently two places and three points behind Stockport in the race to escape the third tier, and they are about to lose a player who has excelled in the division in recent years.

Dacres-Cogley’s tally of seven assists in league action last term was the second-highest of any defender in the division, with only Wrexham’s Ryan Barnett posting a higher tally at the end of the campaign.

He was similarly influential for Bolton in the 2023-24 campaign, as he helped himself to nine goal contributions after his arrival from Tranmere Rovers.

However, the full-back has seen his importance wane somewhat under Steven Schumacher this season, as he has started just 11 of his team’s 25 league outings so far.

That looks set to culminate in a move elsewhere in the mid-season window, with Stockport about to become the beneficiaries.

Stockport’s promotion rivals Bradford City set to lose key player

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that Bradford City defender Brad Halliday is undergoing a medical at Dundee ahead of an imminent move north of the border.

Bradford sit just above the Hatters in the race for automatic promotion, and are currently the closest challengers to Lincoln for that second spot.

However, they are now about to lose a key player in Halliday, who was an integral part of their team that won promotion out of League Two last year.

The 30-year-old has been used more sparingly by the West Yorkshire outfit on their return to the third tier, and is now set to step away from the club where he has spent the last two-and-a-half years.
