Exclusive: Brighton close to agreeing £20m Stefanos Tzimas deal

Brighton are pushing to complete a £20million move to sign Nurnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas, sources have told Football Insider.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 24 January that the Seagulls had opened talks over a move to sign the 19-year-old.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side are determined to get the deal over the line before the transfer window closes on 3 February as they prepare to lose Evan Ferguson.

Reports claimed that Ferguson is now closing in on a move to West Ham, after Football Insider exclusively revealed his desire to leave in November.

Tzimas has scored ten goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga so far this season, attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe.

The deal is a complicated one, as the forward is currently on loan at Nurnberg from PAOK, but a break clause in his contract would allow him to move this month.

As a result, the Seagulls are moving ahead of their opposition in the race for his signature and are growing in confidence that a deal can be reached.

Brighton have been short of options to lead the line this season, with Danny Welbeck’s injury issues a concern, as Tzimas has emerged as a top target for the position.

They are planning to be busy in the closing stages of the transfer window, with a number of deals in the offing on the south coast.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 1 February that the Seagulls had seen a former offer for Sunderland winger Tom Watson rejected.

Now, they have turned their attention towards a new centre-forward and are determined to land their man before the window closes.

This would continue a trend of big spending to back Hurzeler, despite growing pressure on his position in the wake of a 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
