Exclusive: Burnley open talks to sign Joe Worrall

Burnley have opened talks with Nottingham Forest over a possible deal for Joe Worrall, sources have told Football Insider.

Worrall is well down the pecking order at Forest, having spent the second half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Besiktas.

A number of Championship clubs have shown an interest in Worrall, but Burnley are hoping to win the race for the 27-year-old.

The experienced centre-back is under contract at the City Ground until 2026 but was deemed surplus to requirement last season.

Worrall only made seven Premier League appearances last season before his loan, and a move away from Nottingham could be necessary if he wants regular first-team football.

Nottingham signed Nikola Milenkovic on a five-year deal this summer, adding further competition for places.

Burnley want to secure defensive experience with Joe Worrall

Burnley would be looking to secure experience and leadership with Worrall, which he can provide.

With 168 appearances in the Championship, the central defender is proven and could slot straight into Scott Parker’s starting lineup.

Worrall was not part of the matchday squad for Nottingham’s curtain raiser against Bournemouth this past weekend.
