Exclusive: Carlos Corberan is favourite to be Southampton manager after talks

Carlos Corberan is a top contender for the vacant Southampton manager job, sources have told Football Insider.

The 41-year-old has emerged as the new favourite to land the role at St Mary’s Stadium after boardroom talks.

Corberan is keen to quit West Brom and take over at a Premier League club after two years at The Hawthorns.

The Spaniard is under contract at the Midlands club until June 2027 after signing a new deal in February 2023.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (16 December) that Southampton have set their sights on sealing a quick replacement for sacked boss Russell Martin.

They are keen to have a new manager in place for the trip to Fulham on Sunday (22 December) with the busy festive schedule ramping up in the next fortnight.

Corberan keen to quit West Brom as Southampton plot approach

Southampton are rock bottom of the Premier League with just five points from 16 games in the top flight this term.

West Brom are in playoff contention this term under Corberan, who has overseen seven wins and 11 draws in 21 second tier games.

He has won 79 of his 189 Championship matches as a manager at senior level, having also taken charge at Huddersfield.

The Saints face Fulham, West Ham and Crystal Palace before the turn of the year with a dramatic shift in results needed if they are to survive relegation.
