Exclusive: Celtic to offer £30K-a-week to star as talks to open over new deal

Celtic are ready to open talks with Odsonne Edouard over a new contract amid growing interest in him from European big spenders, Football Insider has learned.

The striker, 21, is emerging as the Hoops’ biggest playing asset following the £25million summer sale of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are willing to offer Edouard a major pay hike lifting him to the £30,000-a-week mark as recognition of his growing significance to the team.

The France Under-21 international has three more years remaining on the four-year contract he signed when joining Celtic permanently from Paris Saint-Germain last year.

But he is not currently among Celtic’s top earners and the club are keen to get him tied down to a fresh agreement before the January window opens.

The Hoops hierarchy are aware of growing interest in Edouard after he started the season on fire with six goals and five assists from 12 Celtic matches, including the first in the landmark 2-0 win over Rangers.

The striker highlighted his talents to a wider audience when scoring four times in his first two games for the French Under-21s last week.

Edouard was signed by Celtic for a club-record fee of £9million last year after an impressive campaign on loan.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that club chiefs are “confident” a new signing will ‘terrorise’ opponents after Lennoxtown developments.
