Exclusive: Championship clubs race to sign Jairo Riedewald after Sheffield United latest
Sheffield United midfielder Jairo Riedewald is a target for a number of Championship and European clubs, sources have told Football Insider.
Riedewald, 29, is only on a short-term contract at Bramall Lane which runs until the middle of January after joining the Blades on a free transfer in October.
The Dutchman has made an immediate impact at Sheffield United, helping spark improvements in the club’s form and winning five of his eight appearances so far.
The versatile midfielder caught the eye again and scored in Saturday’s 3-2 win against Leicester City, and multiple sides are now tracking his situation at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United are keen to extend his stay in Yorkshire following his strong start to life under Chris Wilder, but now face stiff competition for his signature.
Sheffield United plan to keep Jairo Riedewald
Wilder is keen to keep Riedewald at Bramall Lane on more of a long-term deal as a result of the success of his short spell, having made eight appearances so far.
Displays like those in the 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday and 3-2 victory over Leicester City have done no harm to his reputation, with supporters wowed by the midfielder.
Multiple watching clubs both from the Championship and across Europe have also taken note.
Riedewald would also bring a wealth of experience to his role, having made 80 Premier League appearances during his time with Crystal Palace.
His influence behind the scenes is also not to be underestimated, with several of the Eagles’ younger players previously speaking highly of his attitude and mentorship.

Louie Barry set for Bramall Lane exit
Despite plenty of focus on Riedewald’s success, one player who has struggled to impress in his short spell with the Blades is Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry.
The 22-year-old has started just six of 18 possible games so far this season, and has been left out of the last six matchday squads, leading to concerns about his future.
Barry is now back training at Aston Villa, as his parent club plan to recall him from his underwhelming loan spell when the January transfer window opens.
Barry also struggled on loan at Hull City after being recalled from his spell at Stockport last season, but struggled in the Championship before returning to Villa in the summer.
