Exclusive: Charlton Athletic agree to sign Rob Apter in £2m+ deal

Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Blackpool midfielder Rob Apter in a deal worth over £2million, sources have told Football Insider.

The London club are finalising a deal for the 22-year-old after having a bid accepted.

The agreement comes after Charlton had a number of initial offers knocked back by Blackpool.

Apter enjoyed an impressive campaign with Blackpool last season, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Charlton secure deal for Blackpool star

Last week (10 July), Football Insider exclusively revealed that Charlton were plotting a move for Apter, but that Steve Bruce was keen to keep the 22-year-old at Bloomfield Road.

However, it now looks as if Bruce will be losing one of his star men, just two weeks before the start of the new season.

Apter joined the Blackpool academy at the age of 15, having successful loan spells at Scunthorpe United and Tranmere Rovers before breaking into the senior side.

As for Charlton, they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign, and the Scotland Under-21 international will bolster the ranks further.

Nathan Jones has already completed a raid on his former club Luton Town, bringing in Thomas Kaminski, Amari’i Bell, and Reece Burke earlier in the window.

The Addicks will be desperate to avoid an immediate relegation back down to the third tier.

Huddersfield set to sign ex-Stoke man

Meanwhile, Lynden Gooch is having a medical at Huddersfield Town after leaving Stoke City this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The USA international has four caps for his nation and was at the Terriers’ training ground on 10 July for talks over a move to the League One club.

The 29-year-old departed Stoke after two seasons at the bet365 Stadium and is available as a free agent after making 53 appearances for the Potters, scoring twice.

Gooch is a fantastic addition to Grant’s squad, given the American is comfortable operating as a left-winger, or as a left wing-back.
