Chelsea are keen on signing another stellar centre-forward this summer, Football Insider understands.
The west Londoners have already signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig after activating his £53million release clause in June.
But a Chelsea source has told Football Insider that manager Frank Lampard has his eye on a second potential top-class front man in a new twist to the club’s transfer plans.
The Blues already has four senior strikers on the books in Werner, Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi.
However, Giroud turns 34 in September and is out of contract next summer, Batshuayi has failed to convinced Lampard and is available for sale in the current window with his deal also expiring in 2021.
Significantly, Abraham has yet to sign a new long-term contract despite extensive talks with the club.
As revealed by Football Insider last month, Abraham’s camp are growing impatient with the lack of progress in discussions as he seeks a more lucrative deal than than club and country teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Chelsea hierarchy have already backed Lampard in this summer’s market and multiple big-money signings are planned.
Attackers Werner and Hakim Ziyech have been signed at a combined £90million and the club are also in talks to sign playmaker Kai Havertz for around £75m.
Chelsea are also in the market for a new number one as well as a midfield anchorman, centre-back and a left-back.
As revealed by Football Insider yesterday, the Londoners are making good progress in talks with Leicester City to sign Ben Chilwell.
They have also made Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez their top centre-back target following difficulties in persuading West Ham to part with Declan Rice.
