Exclusive: Crystal Palace’s Owen Goodman undergoing Barnsley medical
Crystal Palace’s Owen Goodman is undergoing a medical at Barnsley ahead of a potential loan move, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper is now in advanced talks with the League One side as he looks to gain more experience away from the Eagles.
Goodman had been on loan at Huddersfield Town this season but had fallen out of the starting XI before he was recalled by Crystal Palace last week.
The keeper had been sent off against Barnsley earlier this season for a high foot challenge on David McGoldrick during their 3-1 win over the Terriers.
Barnsley are currently looking to pull away from the relegation zone, after a recent poor run of form has seen them fall to 17th in League One.

Owen Goodman has been a regular in the EFL in recent seasons
Before Goodman’s loan move to Huddersfield Town, the goalkeeper had been a regular in League Two.
Crystal Palace had loaned the youngster out to Colchester United in the 2023-24 campaign and to AFC Wimbledon in the 2024-25 season, where he was the number one keeper for both clubs.
At the Dons, he also oversaw a promotion campaign as he started in the playoff final as Wimbledon beat Walsall 1-0.
Now, after struggling for game time at Huddersfield, Goodman will be hoping to hold down a starting place at Barnsley.
How good is Goodman?
Based on his stats for Huddersfield Town this season, the goalkeeper was solid in League One.
According to Fotmob on 14 January, the 22-year-old was averaging 0.43 clean sheets a game and a save percentage of 64.5.
However, he was also conceding 1.17 goals a match and had a goals prevention rate of -1.45.
| Owen Goodman’s League One stats this season | Per 90 minutes |
| Saves | 2.13 |
| Save percentage | 64.5% |
| Goals conceded | 1.17 |
| Goals prevented | -0.15 |
| Clean sheets | 0.43 |
| Errors that led to goals | 0.11 |
Therefore, there are plenty of qualities that need to be improved upon if Barnsley are to pull away from the relegation zone in the coming months with Goodman as their number one keeper.
Nevertheless, his CV from his time in League Two presents enough evidence that he is capable of doing this over the coming months if the loan deal is completed.
