Exclusive: Danny Mills suggests Leeds sending out the wrong message

Danny Mills has suggested Leeds United for sent out the wrong message to the public after select players were given the green light to train at Thorp Arch.

The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Whites were “disobeying advice” from the Government but conceded they are one of many clubs across Europe doing so.

Football Insider revealed that eight members of United’s squad were put through their paces yesterday at the training ground.

Seven of those players have subsequently been named by a local report, which stressed that social distancing had been adhered to but added that they have now been told to stay away from Thorp Arch.

The government guidelines stated people should only leave their home “alone or with members of your household” whilst the UK is under lockdown measures imposed to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Mills suggested the decision brings the safety of those taking training into question as well as the players themselves.

“It is very difficult at the moment because the rules are specific but I have seen a lot of clubs do this,” he told Football Insider.

“Some clubs returning in ones and twos and doing individual work. It has been happening all over Europe.

“You are disobeying advice. You do not know where people are coming from or going to. Whoever is taking the training is dealing with a number of people across the week. I think it is premature to be doing this.

“If players live together and they go out training it is fine but bringing them into the club I do not think it is a good idea. It is not the right message to the public.”

It comes after Spurs were heavily criticised after pictures emerged of Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Davinson Sanchez training with Jose Mourinho in a north London park.
