Exclusive: Duane Holmes jets out as Preston North End ace to join Houston Dynamo

Preston North End midfielder Duane Holmes has flown out to America in order to complete a move to MLS side Houston Dynamo, sources have told Football Insider.

Holmes joined Preston back in the summer of 2023, and has spent the whole of his senior career playing in English football.

The midfielder previously turned out for the likes of Huddersfield Town, Yeovil Town, Bury, Scunthorpe United and Derby County. He also won two senior international caps for the USA in 2019.

Since joining Preston, Holmes has made 72 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.

Having signed a two-year deal when he moved to Deepdale in 2023, Holmes will be out of contract at the end of this season.

However, he is now set to leave the Lancashire outfit, with it understood that the 30-year-old has now flown to America to complete a move to Houston Dynamo.

The midfielder is set to put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Texas-based club, keeping him there until the end of 2026.

Holmes is set to leave Deepdale with Paul Heckingbottom‘s side occupying a mid-table spot in the Championship ahead of their clash with their manager’s old club Sheffield United on Saturday (8 March).

After Preston beat Burnley 3-0 in the fifth round of the FA Cup last week they also have an FA Cup quarter final at home to Premier League side Aston Villa at the end of the month.

Houston Dynamo have made a slow start in MLS

While the transfer window is now closed for clubs to make signings in England, the market in the USA is not due to close until late April.

As a result, there is still plenty of time for Houston to complete their deal to secure the signing of Holmes from Preston.

Once that move is complete, they will hope that the signing of the midfielder can help to kick-start their season.

Ben Olsen’s side have lost their first two games of the MLS campaign, meaning they currently sit bottom of the Western Conference, after finishing eighth in the league overall last season.
