Exclusive: Everton star Reece Welch undergoing medical after deal agreed

Everton defender Reece Welch has agreed a loan move to Belgian club KMSK Deinze and is travelling for his medical on Thursday (5 September), sources have told Football Insider.

Welch, 20, spent the first half last season on loan at Forest Green and has featured for the Everton first-team in pre-season.

Clubs at home and abroad have expressed an interest in the centre-back this summer, but Belgian second-tier side KMSK Deinze have now agreed a season-long loan deal with Everton.

Everton have high hopes for Welch and believe a loan move this summer will be the next stage in the development of the England Under-20 international.

The Toffees brought Jake O’Brien in from Lyon in the off-season, pushing the youngster further down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

Welch made 23 appearances for Forest Green in the first half of last term before returning to Everton in January.

He has also played twice for the Merseysiders’ senior side, with both outings coming in cup competition.

This season, he has stayed sharp with four starts for the Under-21 side but is now set for senior football in Belgium’s second tier.

Welch’s contract at Everton is set to run until June 2026.
