Exclusive: Finley Munroe undergoing Middlesbrough medical after Aston Villa accept bid
Finley Munroe is undergoing a Middlesbrough medical on Wednesday after Aston Villa agreed a fee for him, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old is heading to the Championship club in a permanent deal after settling terms.
Football Insider recently revealed that Munroe was subject to loan interest from Preston and Leyton Orient, but his parent club have now decided that the time is right for them to cash in on the left-back.
Aston Villa recalled Munroe from his loan at League Two outfit Swindon Town on Tuesday, and he is now destined for the Riverside Stadium, with a move to Middlesbrough imminent.
Finley Munroe leads League Two in key stat
Football Insider recently revealed that Swindon had agreed to sign Ben Middlemas from Sunderland, and while that deal has now been confirmed, it will provide little consolation for losing Munroe.
The starlet has been an integral part of the Robins’ success so far this season, and his stats from his latest loan spell provide plenty of excitement for Middlesbrough and their fans.
Swindon have been one of League Two’s highest scoring teams so far this term with 39 goals to their name, and Munroe has been heavily involved in many of those strikes.
The young defender netted two goals during his time at the County Ground and added to that with an impressive six assists.
His eight goal involvements place him as the joint-most productive defender in the fourth tier so far in 2025-26, with Swindon’s other wing-back Joe Snowdon the only man capable of matching his tally.

The Aston Villa youngster has excelled in his first taste of the EFL, and those performances have now earned him a jump up the pyramid.
Middlesbrough also chasing League One star
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Middlesbrough sent scouts to watch Barnsley star Davis Keillor-Dunn in their FA Cup tie at Liverpool on Monday night.
The Teesider’s presence at Anfield was joined by representatives from both Preston and Blackburn Rovers, as the trio of Championship clubs are keen to keep a close eye on the striker.
Keillor-Dunn has netted 11 goals in League One so far this season, a tally which can only be bettered by three other players at present.
The 28-year-old has been a key player for Barnsley since his move from Mansfield Town in the summer of 2024, and he was even nominated for the third tier’s Player of the Season award last time out.
A Championship switch could now be on the cards for him in January, and Middlesbrough will be hoping it is them who win the race.
