Alan Hutton claims a bid for Alfredo Morelos of £20million would turn the heads of the Rangers board members and guarantee a summer sale.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers and Scotland full-back insists that getting the biggest possible price for the Colombian is the Light Blues’ priority.
Rangers had valued Morelos at around the £20m mark prior to the pandemic but the asking price is now around the £12m mark.
Nevertheless, Hutton believes his former club must hold firm before letting their prize asset go too easily.
He told Football Insider: “It’s all about the money, we understand with the pandemic that we’re not sure how the transfer market’s going to work out but if they get a figure in the region of £20million-plus for him, I think definitely their (Rangers) heads will turn and they’ll look to cash in.
“Ultimately they can strengthen in other areas of the pitch so it will be difficult to turn down. I think he’s proved himself to a lot of people and it’s probably from the European stage.
“He’s done well in a lot of the games, he’s not been that prolific against Celtic and in some of the big SPL games but I think on the European stage he’s really come up trumps and scored a lot of goals.”
Morelos scored 29 goals in 46 appearances last season, with six of his strikes coming in the Europa League group and knockout stages.
He has hit the back of the net 77 times for Rangers to date and has a contract that runs until 2023.
In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton has made a big conspiracy claim over the 2020/21 season at Ibrox.
