Exclusive: Ipswich submitting Callum Wilson offer after Celtic and Everton moves

Ipswich Town are offering Callum Wilson an 18-month contract in a bid to beat Celtic and Everton to his signature, sources have told Football Insider.

The 33-year-old striker has decided to leave West Ham this month and has been given the green light to find a new club.

Celtic are exploring a deal for Wilson, while Ipswich and Everton have both registered their interest, and Saudi Arabian clubs are also keen.

The former England striker wants and 18-month deal to give him greater security.

Everton would prefer a shorter agreement, while sources say Ipswich are more likely to bow to Wilson’s demands, and are trying to win the race by doing so.

Ipswich lead race to sign Callum Wilson

Football Insider revealed on 6 January that Wilson has agreed to leave West Ham by terminating his contract early after just five months at the club.

The signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe had pushed the 33-year-old down the pecking order, and he is keen to find a new club as a result.

While he had been keen to remain in the Premier League, and Everton would give him the chance to do so, Ipswich’s offer being more long-term could be the key.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 9 January that Celtic want to sign two new players, a midfielder and a striker, with the later a major priority.

Wilson would likely go in as the first-choice striker under Martin O’Neill, but they are uncertain about his willingness to make the switch to Scotland.

Ipswich pushing to agree striker deal after Patrick Bamford blow

The signing of a new striker has become a priority for Ipswich in the January transfer window as Kieran McKenna desperately seeks to bolster his squad.

Patrick Bamford was a top target for Ipswich, but they ultimately missed out when the former Leeds star opted to extend his stay at Sheffield United.

As a result, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 8 January that Ipswich were interested in Birmingham City’s Lyndon Dykes on a short-term deal.

They then suffered another blow in their efforts to land a striker, as Dykes completed a loan move to Championship rivals Charlton Athletic this week.

As a result, they are determined to agree terms with Wilson and will battle Premier League and European suitors to ensure they land their man.
