Exclusive: James Furlong to leave Hull City as Scottish Premiership clubs race to agree deal
James Furlong is set to leave Hull City this month with several Scottish Premiership clubs interested in his signature, sources have told Football Insider.
Furlong, 23, has found himself out of favour at Hull and is keen on a move away in search of regular first-team football.
The left-back enjoyed a successful loan spell in Scotland with Motherwell in 2023, and top-tier clubs n the league have continued to keep tabs on him ever since.
Hull are pushing for promotion to the Premier League this season under Sergej Jakirovic, but Furlong has failed to make a single competitive appearance in the first half of the campaign, and sources have now indicated that a move away is imminent.
James Furlong’s EFL experience
Football Insider recently revealed that Hull are set allow young striker Hugh Parker to leave on loan in January, and Furlong has been in that position himself in recent years.
The former Brighton man joined the ranks at the MKM Stadium for an undisclosed fee back in September 2023, but has since struggled to make an impact for the Championship outfit.
Furlong has made just one competitive appearance for the Tigers since his arrival, and that came in the FA Cup during the 2023-24 campaign.
He spent last season on loan in League Two with AFC Wimbledon, where he made 23 league appearances to help the Dons to promotion to the third tier through the play-off final.

That loan spell in London provided Furlong with the entirety of the EFL experience that he has gained so far in his career, and he now appears destined to move north of the border.
Hull City face race to sign Ismael Boura
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Hull have registered their interest in signing Ismael Boura, along with fellow Championship sides Blackburn and Preston.
The attacking left-back has starred for Troyes in Ligue 2 so far this season, and has notched a goal and two assists to help them climb to the top of the league table.
A move to England could now be in the pipeline for the 25-year-old, with the trio of second-tier sides identifying him as a player who could come in and improve their squads.
Boura is a complete unknown to English fans at the moment, but that could soon be about to change if Hull or one of their rivals can secure his signature before the end of the month.
