Exclusive: Julen Lopetegui ‘one match from West Ham sack’ after new talks

Julen Lopetegui is just one game away from the sack at West Ham United, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the 58-year-old’s job is “on the line” if the Hammers lose at the weekend.

West Ham’s win against Wolves on Monday (9 December) was seen as a stay of execution for Lopetegui, but he must follow that up with a result against Bournemouth on Monday (16 December).

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the Irons have been talking to prospective managers as the club looks to line up a replacement for Lopetegui.

West Ham have people ready to come in at any point if they decide to part ways with their current manager.

Lopetegui is one defeat away from crisis again, and a loss against the Cherries could end up costing him his job.

West Ham are under pressure to perform on Monday night

The Hammers are sitting 14th in the Premier League table after the opening 15 games, having won one-third of those fixtures.

Lopetegui’s side are nine points above the relegation zone heading into the upcoming game week, but they boast the third-worst defensive record in the league.

The pressure will be on Lopetegui against Bournemouth as Football Insider revealed that Graham Potter is ready to step in and take over.
