Exclusive: Leeds dressing room left in ‘terrible’ state after Daniel Farke sack update

Leeds United players were left at “rock bottom” after the defeat to Aston Villa, and morale is low with Daniel Farke’s job on the line, sources have told Football Insider.

Farke has two games to escape the Leeds sack ahead of Man City away on Saturday, 29 November, and Chelsea at home next Wednesday, 3 December.

It comes as the manager attempts to lift morale among the players charged with spearheading an immediate upturn in form.

Sources say the mood in the dressing room was “terrible” and “the lowest it has been all season” in the wake of the 2-1 loss to Villa last Sunday.

As revealed by Football Insider on Friday, Leeds’ owners are preparing for a change of manager if Farke’s team does not get points against big guns City and Chelsea.

Daniel Farke is under immense pressure at Elland Road

There is a growing sense that a new boss is needed to get the best from a group of players struggling to overcome the gap between the Championship and the Premier League.

After 12 matches, the Whites are sitting 18th in the Premier League table, falling below West Ham on goal difference ahead of a run of very difficult fixtures.

His team have lost five of their last six games, only avoiding defeat against the Hammers, in which Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon were on target inside the first 15 minutes.

Brendan Rodgers has joined the race to replace Farke, with Marcelo Bielsa, Carlos Corberan, and Ange Postecoglou all mentioned as potential suitors at Elland Road.

Leeds United’s struggles are obvious ahead of January

Last season, the entire tactic was built on Leeds having a rock-solid defence, and with Rodon and Pascal Struijk partnering up, with only Burnley conceding fewer goals in the Championship.

That has continued into the new campaign, and while goals conceded were expected in the Premier League, it is the number of goals being scored that makes for horrifying reading.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha only have a handful of goals between them, but after spending nothing on transfer fees for either, it is not entirely surprising.

It is obvious where the Whites must improve once the January transfer window rolls around, but it remains to be seen if Farke will be in charge by then.
