Exclusive: Leeds planning January move for Luca Thomas
Leeds United are planning to loan forward Luca Thomas to an EFL club in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old joined National League high flyers York City on loan earlier this week in a move that had been exclusively revealed by Football Insider last Saturday (October 12).
Although the transfer window is closed for higher-level moves, clubs can still arrange deals with non-league teams.
The deal is set to expire in December, and Leeds believe the youngster will be ready for the next step by January, with plans to send him to a more established Football League side during the winter transfer window.
Thomas is highly regarded by the hierarchy at Elland Road after an impressive start to the season for their academy side in Premier League 2, where he scored six goals in five games.
Leeds want Luca Thomas to take the next step
Thomas’ loan to York City marks his first experience of senior-level first-team football, though he has yet to make his debut for the club.
Capable of playing anywhere on the front line, Thomas established himself as one of Leeds’ most promising youngsters, scoring 35 goals and providing eight assists in 62 games at youth level.

While Thomas has occasionally been deployed on both the left and right wings, he primarily plays as a center-forward.
York City currently occupies third place in the National League, boasting seven wins, five draws, and only one defeat from their first 13 league matches.
