Exclusive: Leeds & West Ham target in talks to join PL club after terminating deal

West Ham and Leeds United target Matthew Bondswell is in talks to join a Premier League club after quitting RB Leipzig, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The left-back, 18, came close to joining the Londoners at the end of January after heading to England for negotiations and to discuss a deal.

But a move could not be finalised and a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bondswell has now terminated his deal at Leipzig.

He had spent the first half of the season on loan at Dutch club FC Dordrecht before returning to the Bundesliga giants.

But he had his eye on a move back to England and has secured his release from Leipzig.

The door is now open for Nottingham Forest academy product Bondswell, who turns 19 in April, to rebuild his career in England.

That has put leading Premier League teams on alert and the player is already in discussions with a number of them.

In addition to January suitors Leeds and West Ham, Chelsea have had a longstanding interest in the left-sided defender, while Sporting Lisbon have also been in contact over a potential deal.

Bondswell, who has been capped by England at Under-18 level, is eager to secure a Premier League move.

Intriguingly, Leeds also failed with a late move for another young defender – Frederik Alves – before the 21-year-old Dane joined West Ham at the end of December.

Bondswell joined RB Leipzig two years ago as he joined the rush of British talent heading to Germany to fast-track their careers.

He made seven appearances earlier this season FC Dordrecht, six of which came as a starter in league matches.
