Exclusive: Liverpool hatch new January signing plan after U-turn

Liverpool are increasingly likely to keep their powder dry in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Reds chiefs attracted the wrath of fans by failing to spend big to back new boss Arne Slot in the summer window, but the Dutchman has made an incredible start to life at Anfield regardless.

The Merseysiders sit top of the Premier League and also lead the league phase in the Champions League despite only signing Federico Chiesa in the summer.

As such, it is believed Slot and Liverpool transfer chiefs are relaxed about the state of the squad which has delivered such a dominant start to the season.

Serious injuries to any of the squad’s key players will be the only way they are forced into a big-money deal next month, but money is available in the budget at Anfield to do so.

Liverpool and Slot pull U-turn over midfielder pursuit

Slot had been keen to add a holding midfielder in the summer window and Liverpool failed with a deal for Martin Zubimendi – but transfer chiefs have now pulled a U-turn in that pursuit.

Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation under his compatriot’s management while Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister are also playing their best football under the Dutchman.

Arsenal

The biggest question marks at Liverpool are hanging over the future of star trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Their contracts end in June and Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, while Salah has been a long-term target in Saudi Arabia.
