Exclusive: Man City losing £180,000 per day

Manchester City are paying out almost £1.3million per week to players currently sidelined through injury, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League champions have endured a challenging campaign, with the FA Cup providing their only remaining hope of securing silverware this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are set to take on Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals of the competition on Sunday (27 April) for a place in the final.

Man City moved above Forest into third in the Premier League table following their last-gasp victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday (22 April), with Matheus Nunes’s injury-time strike securing a 2-1 win at the Etihad.

The Manchester giants were without five first-team players for the clash after several stars have faced injury problems this season.

Ederson, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Rodri and Erling Haaland were all absent against Villa and look set to miss this weekend’s Wembley showdown.

Sources have told Football Insider Man City are paying £1.26million per week – or £180,000 each day – to players currently sidelined through injury.

Ederson increasingly likely to quit Man City

Haaland is Man City’s highest earner after he signed a new long-term deal worth around £525,000 a week earlier this year.

Stones is next on the list of the injury-stricken stars with a £250,000 salary, while Rodri rakes in around £220,000 per week.

Ake is understood to earn around £160,000 a week, while Ederson’s deal is worth in the region of £100,000.

Football Insider revealed on 20 April Ederson is increasingly likely to quit Man City this summer following interest from Saudi Arabia.

Man City’s wage bill stood at £412million for 2023-24 as their salary expenditure remains the highest in the Premier League.

Man City’s number-one target to replace Kevin De Bruyne revealed

Football Insider revealed on 19 April Florian Wirtz is the “number-one target” to replace Kevin De Bruyne ahead of the summer transfer window.

Man City have identified potential De Bruyne replacements, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Jamal Musiala on the list alongside Wirtz.

Guardiola views Wirtz as the dream signing, but sources say Bayern Munich are the current front-runners and a deal could prove difficult for Etihad chiefs to pull off.
