Exclusive: Man City open preliminary Omar Marmoush talks

Man City have held preliminary talks with Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush and his representatives over a potential transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has been a breakout star for Frankfurt in the Bundesliga this term.

Marmoush has been identified as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez, who left City for Atletico Madrid in the off-season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to add reinforcements in the attack and midfield in the January transfer window.

City are actively working on a deal for Marmoush but Frankfurt don’t want to lose the versatile forward this month.

The English champions will have to pay a big-money fee to secure the Egyptian’s signature, and Frankfurt will also have to line up a suitable replacement before a deal is sanctioned.

Marmoush has notched 18 goals and 12 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

His tally of 13 Bundesliga goals is just one short of Bayern Munich and England star Harry Kane’s 14 strikes at the top of the league’s scoring charts.

Man City identify Marmoush as Alvarez replacement

The 35-cap Egypt international is under contract until June 2027.

Frankfurt stand to bank a huge profit on the Cairo-born ace, who joined the club from Wolfsburg in 2023 on a free transfer.

He primarily plays as a centre-forward but can also feature on the left and right flanks – as well as in an attacking midfielder role.

Leroy Sane, Bayern Munich

Football Insider revealed on Monday (6 January) that Man City are also monitoring Leroy Sane’s situation at Bayern Munich.

City sit sixth in the Premier League and are eyeing reinforcements this month to turn their faltering season around.
