Exclusive: Man City to blow Liverpool away and sign teen sensation

Man City are leading Liverpool in the race to sign Leicester City sensation Jeremy Monga and are expected to finalise a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 15-year-old is expected to move to the Etihad this summer “unless something drastic changes”.

Monga fits the profile of young player City have been looking at, while he is well-suited to their system, philosophy and youth model.

He became the Premier League’s second-youngest ever player when he appeared off the bench during Leicester’s 3-0 defeat to Newcastle earlier this month.

Liverpool’s interest was piqued after he made a five-minute cameo appearance at Anfield, but they now look set to miss out.

Man City plot swoop for 15-year-old Leicester star Jeremy Monga

Man City are set for a busy summer transfer window as they aim to improve their first-team squad, but always have one eye on the future.

Last summer, City signed West Ham gem Divin Mubama to bolster their academy side, as the 20-year-old has enjoyed a successful first season in the youth ranks.

Monga is now being eyed in a similar vein, where he will join the academy with a long-term view to making his mark on the first-team.

He will aim to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Nico O’Reilly, who have all established themselves as regulars in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

Rodri contract talks planned after Real Madrid latest

As part of their busy summer transfer plans and aims to improve their squad both now and for the future, City are also aiming to keep their best players.

Football Insider revealed on 25 April that Man City will offer Rodri a new contract amid interest from Real Madrid as they are extremely reluctant to lose their star man.

Guardiola’s side have struggled without the Ballon d’Or winner in midfield this season and remain hopeful his ability will not be affected by his long-term absence.

However, former Man United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last November that City could be powerless to prevent Rodri’s exit.
