Exclusive: Mark Travers medical update for Bournemouth exit to Middlesbrough

Bournemouth and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Mark Travers is travelling to Middlesbrough to undergo a medical with the Championship club, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has made 82 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries (Transfermarkt) and has been capped at senior international level by the Republic of Ireland on four occasions.

He also previously spent a spell on loan in the Championship in 2023, when he had a stint with Stoke City.

Now Travers is set to complete a return to the second-tier of English football as he edges closer to a move to Middlesbrough.

Football Insider revealed last week that ‘Boro were in advanced talks with Andoni Iraola’s side over a loan deal for the 25-year-old.

Michael Carrick’s side are in need of cover between the posts with first and second choice options Seny Dieng and Sol Brynn both currently out through injury.

Middlesbrough are now in line to get their man, with Travers making the trip north in order to undergo a medical with the Championship club.

It has already been a busy January transfer window at The Riverside Stadium, with Morgan Whittaker signing permanently from Plymouth Argyle, and Ryan Giles returning on loan from Hull City.

George Edmundson has also converted a loan move from Ipswich Town into a permanent stay at ‘Boro.

As revealed by Football Insider, Middlesbrough have also won the race to sign 18-year-old midfielder Brayden Johnson from Eastbourne Borough.

Carrick’s side are currently sixth in the Championship table, and will look to retain their place in the play-off spots when they host Sunderland on Monday night (3 February).

Bournemouth meanwhile are on an excellent run of form that currently puts them seventh in the Premier League table, just one point adrift of the top four.

Travers two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at the Vitality Stadium, securing his future with Andoni Iraola’s side until the summer of 2027.

In other news, Bournemouth have responded to Chelsea’s interest in Dean Huijsen.
