Exclusive: Matty Jacob completes Reading medical after Hull move agreed
Matty Jacob is undergoing a medical at Reading today after agreeing move from Hull City, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that the left-back, 24, has agreed to join the Royals on loan for 2025–26 after being limited to just eight Championship appearances for the Tigers last season.
Jacob is now putting the finishing touches on his temporary transfer by completing medical tests with the League One club, who finished just three points off the play-off places despite a turbulent campaign.
Reading have won the race for Jacob amid interest from several other clubs, with Hull happy to send the Barnsley-born defender out on loan after he failed to feature in any of their last 16 matches.

Reading continue summer rebuild amid uncertainty at Hull
Royals manager Noel Hunt has already strengthened his defence so far this summer with the signing of Lincoln City captain Paudie O’Connor on a free transfer, as well as Cambirdge keeper Jack Stephens.
Under the new ownership of former Wycombe Wanderers boss Rob Couhig and the end of Dai Yongge’s controversial time in charge at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, things are finally on the up for Reading.
Jacob scored in one of his eight appearances for Hull against Sheffield United, and a goal threat from left-back will be valued after Reading lost striker Sam Smith to Wrexham for a £2million fee mid-season.

Hull hit with transfer embargo ahead of Jacob exit
Reading may finally be over the worst of the ownership issues brought on by Yongge’s disastrous tenure, but the problems are only just beginning for Hull after they staved off relegation on goal difference.
Hull had hoped to complete a deal for Louie Barry to return to the MKM Stadium on loan this summer, but a transfer embargo imposed over a late payment could throw several spanners into the works.
The Tigers are still unlikely to stand in Jacob’s way after he played a bit-part role for them at best last season, but it remains to be seen how Akun Elikali handles the latest setback to their summer business.
