Middlesbrough have had a bid accepted by Preston North End for defender Darnell Fisher, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 26-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract at Deepdale and Boro are set to capitalise.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the fee agreed is around £300,000 and a transfer is now close.

The right-back has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season but has been forced to watch on from the bench since the 2-0 loss at Bristol City earlier this month.

Fisher is out of contract in the summer, and according to reports, Preston have not tabled him a new deal.

A product of Celtic's academy, Fisher joined Alex Neill's side in July 2017 from Rotherham United.

He has amassed over 100 appearances for North End, with one goal and 15 assists to his name in that time.

The full-back could become one of a number of big name exits from Deepdale this month.

Ben Davies could be moving to Glasgow this month after Celtic reached a pre-contract agreement with the centre-half.

Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock is keen to bolster his ranks with the signing of Preston's Fisher after his side slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Rotherham on Wednesday night.

The North East side are currently seventh in the Championship, three points off the Play-Off spots.
