Exclusive: Millwall in talks with Celtic to fast-track Daniel Kelly deal

Millwall and Celtic are in talks to try and thrash out a deal to bring forward Daniel Kelly’s move to England this summer rather than wait until January, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship club have agreed a pre-contract deal with the 18-year-old that would see him arrive in January, immediately after his Celtic contract expires at the end of December.

However, Millwall hope to reach an agreement with the Hoops to move Kelly’s arrival forward by five months.

If the two clubs agree, then the central midfielder will be able to move south of the border and kickstart his Millwall career as soon as this month.

This would allow Kelly to be integrated into Neil Harris’ team sooner, bolstering his options.

The central midfielder has already featured for Celtic’s B team four times in the Lowland league this season, scoring twice and producing one assist.

Millwall want Daniel Kelly in the squad as soon as possible

Millwall kickstarted their Championship campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Watford but followed it up with a midweek win in the EFL Cup.

However, Harris is looking to get Kelly into the squad sooner than planned to help the squad from the start of the season.

Brendan Rodgers has publicly confirmed that Kelly won’t be part of the first-team squad due to the contract issue, meaning he is unlikely to feature for the Scottish giants for the remainder of his contract.

Celtic fans have blasted Rodgers’ treatment of Kelly throughout the summer, with some finding the situation manipulative.

The Scotland Under-19 international has scored one goal in six first-team appearances for the Hoops.
