Newcastle United are expected to submit a bid for FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa imminently, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources say that Porto are braced for an offer from Eddie Howe's side for the highly-rated 21-year-old.

The Portuguese giants fear they could lose their star striker before the close of the transfer window, despite the player being seemingly happy at the club.

Samu Aghehowa move could open door for Alexander Isak exit

Newcastle have been furiously searching for a new centre forward after learning that Alexander Isak no longer wants to be at the club.

Isak became unsettled following an approach from Liverpool, and he is now refusing to play for the Magpies.

However, the Swede's potential switch to Anfield will not happen until Newcastle have found a replacement.

The Tyneside club missed out on Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United, which seemed to decrease the chances of Liverpool signing Isak this summer.

If Newcastle are able to seal a deal for Aghehowa though, then the 25-year-old may get his move to Merseyside after all, which would end the most high-profile transfer saga of the summer.

Newcastle in race for Premier League striker

Meanwhile, Newcastle are one of five sides in the race for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jacksonsources have told Football Insider today.

The Magpies are interested in the Senegal international after seeing a number of their top attacking targets move elsewhere.

Sources say that Jackson has made his desire to leave Stamford Bridge clear, after the recent incomings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Howe’s side are joined by fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the battle to sign the striker, as well as Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Juventus.
