Exclusive: Nottingham Forest hit by devastating new Chris Wood blow

Nottingham Forest fear Chris Wood could be ruled out for the rest of the season with his knee injury, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker, 34, underwent surgery on a troublesome knee injury in December with the hope he could return for Forest for the second half of the campaign.

However, it is feared Wood may not return to action until next season as he recovers from the surgery.

Forest have badly missed last season’s top goalscorer as they find themselves in a relegation dogfight, and Wood’s absence means they are short of attacking options up top.

Chris Wood absence exposes Nottingham Forest issues in front of goal

Morgan Gibbs-White missed a penalty for Nottingham Forest in their 1-0 defeat to Braga in the Europa League on Thursday night, as their issues in front of goal continue to be exposed.

Only bottom club Wolves have scored fewer goals in the Premier League than the Reds so far this season, and they have already drawn a blank in 13 encounters this season across league and Europa League action.

Sean Dyche’s side lack firepower at the top of the pitch, with Gibbs-White currently the only player in the squad to have surpassed three league goals for the season at the 22-game mark.

Wood was prolific during their impressive campaign last term, but he has only been fit enough to start seven Premier League games this time around.

The veteran striker hasn’t featured for the East Midlands outfit since the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea that ended Ange Postecoglou’s reign back in October, and he may now not feature until next season.

Ex-FIFA referee slams Elliot Anderson for red card vs Braga

Ex-FIFA referee and former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett slammed Elliot Anderson for being sent off for Forest during stoppage time in their defeat to Braga.

The England midfielder was given his marching orders after something he said to referee Igor Pajic, who brandished a straight red card to the 23-year-old.

Fans were left baffled by the fact that Anderson wasn’t cautioned for his dissent before being dismissed, but Hackett was keen to stress that officials in the English game have been too lenient towards aggression in their direction in recent years.

Hackett suggested that the Forest star was likely to have questioned the integrity of the man in the middle, and will now be facing a suspension for the upcoming games in the Europa League.
