Kevin Phillips is adamant that Chelsea are not finished in the transfer market yet after the club announced the signing of Thiago Silva on Friday.

The former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that 35-year-old’s experience will be “invaluable” at Stamford Bridge over the next two seasons.

The Blues confirmed the capture of the Brazil international on a one-year deal with the club holding the option of a further 12 months.

Silva became Frank Lampard’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr on long-term contracts.

Football Insider understands that the Blues remain keen on a deal for West Ham’s Declan Rice as well as AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Phillips hailed the new arrivals this summer and tipped the London-club to mount a serious challenge for silverware next season.

“Thiago Silva showed in the Champions League final that he still has it,” he told Football Insider.

“For someone like Chilwell to be learning off Thiago Silva, given his experience, is invaluable.

“I am really excited by Chelsea this season, I expect them to be challenging. They have done some good business and I do not think they are finished just yet.

“Having Silva through the door will be a huge help to the younger players.”

Speaking on the signing of Silva, Blues director Marina Granovskaia said: “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.

“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.”
