Exclusive: Portsmouth agree to sign Nicolas Schmid as medical passed

Portsmouth have agreed a deal for Austrian goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid with the deal set to be confirmed later this week, sources have told Football Insider.

Championship new boys Portsmouth have agreed a fee with BW Linz, and Schmid has agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Fratton Park.

The 27-year-old will provide cover and competition for first-choice Will Norris for Portsmouth this season.

Schmid has already kickstarted his personal campaign with BW Linz, keeping two clean sheets in their opening three matches.

The Austrian also provided an assist in their 1-0 win against Austria Vienna, showcasing his range of passing.

Norris managed to keep his first clean sheet of the season last weekend as Portsmouth drew 0-0 against Luton Town.

Portsmouth have brought competition in Nicolas Schmid

Schmid has plenty of experience to offer the Championship club, having played 214 games throughout his career.

The 27-year-old has kept a total of 64 clean sheets, nine of which occurred in the 2023-24 campaign.

However, Schmid doesn’t bring any prior experience of playing in England at any level.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth have failed to win any of their opening three games this season, which included them being knocked out of the EFL Cup.

The Championship newboys haven’t lost in the league either after drawing their first two matches.
