Exclusive: Preston North End agree deal to sign Jordan Thompson
Preston North End have agreed a deal to sign Stoke City midfielder Jordan Thompson on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Northern Ireland international is a free agent after seeing out his contract at Stoke this summer.
Preston have moved quickly to snap up the 28-year-old as they look to bolster their squad for the 2025-26 campaign.
They have reached a full agreement with Thompson and are now putting the finishing touches to the deal.
Preston wrap up first summer signing
The ex-Rangers ace has been with Stoke since joining from Blackpool in January 2020.
Thompson made 26 appearances across all competitions for the Potters in the 2024-25 campaign despite missing a big chunk of action after undergoing groin surgery.
He has racked up 156 games of experience in the English Championship – also plying his trade in League One and in the Scottish Championship.

The Belfast-born ace made his Northern Ireland debut in May 2018 and has gone on to play 38 times for his country.
Thompson primarly plays in central midfield but can also fill in at left-back.
Stoke finished 18th in the Championship this term, while Preston ended up 20th and just one point clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile in the Championship, Football Insider has revealed that Sunderland are resigned to losing star man Jobe Bellingham if they do not gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Bellingham has interest in the Premier League and from Borussia Dortmund following his impressive development with Sunderland.
The Black Cats face Sheffield United as underdogs in next week’s (24 May) play-off final at Wembley.
