Exclusive: Rangers now turn their attention to Slaven Bilic after scrapping original shortlist
Slaven Bilic is the latest manager under consideration for the Rangers job after Russell Martin was sacked, sources have told Football Insider.
The former West Ham manager, who has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Fateh in August 2024, has now emerged as a key contender.
Football Insider revealed on 6 October that Rangers had a four-man managerial shortlist at Ibrox, with Steven Gerrard, Sean Dyche, Danny Rohl and Kevin Muscat on their radar.
However, they are still assessing a number of options across the game, with Hearts boss Derek McInnes and now Bilic also on their radar.
This comes after Gerrard became the latest boss to turn down Rangers, despite Football Insider‘s reveal on 10 October that Gerrard had held positive talks at Ibrox.

Slaven Bilic open to managerial return with Rangers
Football Insider revealed on 10 October that the Rangers job was Gerrard’s to lose, but they have been left scrambling for alternatives after he pulled out.
Bilic is believed to be open to a return to top-level management, after Football Insider revealed Bilic was an option for West Ham in their attempts to replace Graham Potter.
However, he missed out on a surprise return to the London Stadium when they opted to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo, who controversially left Nottingham Forest earlier this season.
That has not deterred Bilic from seeking a return to management though, and he is now emerging as a serious contender to take over at Ibrox.
Rangers assessing Steven Gerrard alternatives
Rangers’ managerial search has taken a new turn, as Football Insider revealed on 12 October that Rohl and McInnes are options after Gerrard’s snub.
A number of bosses had been considered during the summer prior to Martin’s appointment, and are on their list once again, but Rangers are keen to assess all options.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 6 October that Rangers will take their time to replace Martin and are determined not to rush into the wrong decision.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 6 October that Rohl is open to taking the Rangers job despite having missed out previously.
While he is one of a number of contenders for the vacant position, Brown explained that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss is very highly-rated by the Rangers hierarchy.
